We are excited to have Dr. Nienhuis on board again this summer helping run our Summer Sports Performance program! After working with the program last summer, Dr. Nienhuis now takes the lead in developing and overseeing all aspects of our summer strength and conditioning programming. He brings a unique combination of academic expertise and high-level coaching experience to our athletes. Dr. Nienhuis is currently a Visiting Professor in the Department of Movement Science at Grand Valley State University, where he teaches exercise physiology, kinesiology, and strength and conditioning. He also serves as the Head Strength Coach for the Grand Rapids Rise, a professional women’s volleyball team, where he designs and monitors advanced training systems for elite athletes. Holding a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Miami, Dr. Nienhuis specializes in biomechanics and applied physiology. He is nationally certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), Master Trainer and Strength Coach (NCSF), and USA Weightlifting Sport Performance Coach. To support the program’s mission and provide more individualized attention to athletes, Dr. Nienhuis will be joined this summer by his assistant from the Grand Rapids Rise and several strength and conditioning interns who have been handpicked and trained under Dr. Nienhuis. Together, they will deliver a safe, challenging, and developmentally focused training experience for all participants. We look forward to starting our program on Monday, June 9! It will run every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30am to 10:00am. Transportation will be provided each morning TO the workouts. Buses wont return home until noon when summer school finishes so athletes would either need a ride home at 10am or they can wait until noon for the summer school buses.
